Animator’s Palate

Disney has rotational dining which allows guests to rotate through each of its top three dining rooms.  Animator’s Palate is one of the main three main dining rooms onboard the Disney Wonder.  Two of the main reasons people like to take cruises include the endless supply of delicious food and the excellent entertainment.  Disney’s Animator’s Palate incorporates both of these two things.  Both the food and the entertainment was a truly enchanting Disney experience.

Notice in the photos that Animator’s Palate walls start off in black and white.  The enormous paint brushes are turned upside down with the paint brush end touching the ceiling.  On the roof is a larger than life paint palate. Hanging on the wall every few feet are frames that hold Disney artwork or sketches.  As the night goes on, the frames come to life with Disney Animation, including scenes from Pocahontas, Mulan, and Little Mermaid

Mickey even appears.  In fact, the entire restaurant comes alive while the music swells.  The paint brushes continually change into eye-catching, sparkling colors along with every wall in the restaurant. The restaurant is vibrant with color exploding everywhere.

A Disney Coloring Book Restaurant

The best way that I can think of to describe Animator’s Palate is for you to reflect on a Disney coloring book. Think about painting the coloring book with watercolors. As you finish painting a Disney character, it jumps out of your coloring book and comes alive along with your paintbrush which continually washes every inch of your entire house. Hats off to Disney animators for this extremely enjoyable themed dinner show.


Now, on to the food.  I was lucky enough to meet Chef Alex at several food demonstrations.  He is the Head Chef for Animator’s Palate.  I am telling you this was an incredibly sweet man.  He would go out of his way to make sure you enjoyed your meal and let us know this several times.

If you are ever disappointed in any of your food choices, try something else.  There are plenty of options on the menu for everyone.

Do not miss the food demonstrations look for times in the daily navigator for the Art of Entertaining.  This picture is one of Chef Alex dishes.  It is Pan Seared Alaskan Salmon with an Apple Butter Sauce and Herbed Potato Pancakes. I enjoy Salmon, and this ranks up there with the best I have ever eaten.  The sweet apple butter sauce added to the Salmon was singing praises in my mouth.  Chef Alex also entertained us with a Herb Seared Alaskan Halibut demonstration and a Strawberry Rhubarb Crepe demonstration that was so delightful all I could think about was finishing the Crepe.  Chef Alex, Your Food Rocks!

I thought the best way to talk about the food we ate while rotating through Animator’s Palate is to show you, so I have included lots of pictures of our family’s favorites dishes.  We rotated through Animator’s Palate twice including on the Until We Meet Again themed night.

The Garlic Rosemary Lamb Sirloin with Potato Gratin and Sun Dried Tomato Jus was an excellent choice.  This lamb was very tender and delicious.  My son enjoyed the potato gratin. He said this Lamb was one of his favorite dishes on the cruise. This means a lot from a teenager who enjoys his manly meat and potato meals.

Beef Wellington

I enjoyed this Beef Wellington on the last night of our cruise on the Until We Meet Again menu. The mushroom stuffing with the puff pastry was another great combination.  The beef was cooked perfectly which I am sure is difficult to do inside a pastry. The sauce, or gravy if you are from the south, was appetizing.  I should have asked for a little more of it. I dipped everything in the sauce before eating it which should tell you how much I enjoyed the delicious flavor.

Lemon-Thyme Marinated Chicken Breast

On my first day, I experienced a Lemon-Thyme Marinated Chicken Breast on top of Sour Cream Mashed Potatoes with Root Vegetables and a Grain Mustard Sauce.  I did not care as much for the vegetables, but the chicken was very moist and had an excellent flavor. The sauce was good and went well with the sour cream mashed potatoes. This sauce had a slightly tangy taste which was great. I know this was a lovely meal, and I was trying to use my manners, but I soaked or “sopped” up every bit of this sauce.  I enjoyed it with the chicken and potatoes.

My husband enjoyed the Roasted Red Snapper.  It was a delicate and tasty fish which was extremely flakey. The olives, celery, fennel, potatoes, and saffron sauce worked together to make this dish an extremely pleasant surprise.  He enjoyed this Red Snapper.  He kept saying it had a touch of sweetness.  

The last night my son ate the Seafood Linguine Pasta with Shrimp, Lobster, Clams, Scallops, and Asparagus on top of a bed of linguine.  The seafood was cooked just right and not overcooked.  The pasta with its creamy sauce was appetizing.

My husband and son both enjoyed a Veal Chop on our first visit to Animator’s Palate. The Grilled Veal Chop had Roasted Red Potatoes, Sweet Onions, and a Morel Mushroom Sauce. The veal was very tender.

Chicken Penne Pasta with Parmesan Cream Sauce was one of my son’s favorite pasta.  He inhaled this pasta in just a few minutes.  It was very creamy and with lots of cheese.

If you enjoy Tuna or Sashimi,  try the Ahi Tuna Tartare.  My husband ate the tuna for an appetizer on the first trip to Animator’s Palate.  He said it just melted in his mouth.

Another great thing about having new friends at our table was to hear how they were enjoying their food.  This Asian Marinated Beef Tenderloin was delicious. One of our new table friends enjoyed on the first night at Animator’s Palate.  He enjoyed it and said it was very tender.

Warm Apple Crumble

The Warm Apple Crumble with Vanilla Ice Cream was a table favorite by many of us and eaten several times on our trip.  It was truly a warm, sweet, crunchy, creamy way to end your meal.  Being from the south, we eat a lot of apple crumbles, and this one was something to brag about.

Double Fudge Chocolate Cake

The Double Fudge Chocolate Cake was light and creamy.  It was very rich but had a creamy topping which balanced it out well.  If you are a chocolate fan, you will enjoy this dessert.

Chocolate Decadence 

If you love chocolate, you have to try the combo called Chocolate Decadence at Animators. It was part of the Until We Meet Again Menu.  It was a rich and creamy delight, sort of like a mousse.
