Animal Kingdom Lodge at Disney

Animal Kingdom Lodge is located in Disney World.  Did you know the animals come right up to the hotel?  Great views of the animals while staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge and Animal Kingdom Villas.

I have heard great things about the Animal Kingdom Lodge at Disney, but I had never checked it out until our last visit.   This hotel is further from all the parks except for Animal Kingdom so be prepared for a longer commute time on the hotel shuttles.  But when you arrive you feel like you’re away from the hustle and bustle of all the Disney crowds.  The best part about the lodge and what makes it many people’s favorite hotel is the view of the animals.

Animal Kingdom Lodge and Animal Kingdom Villas backs up to Disney’s Animal Kingdom.  It truly feels like you are inside the Animal Kingdom park.  The animals are so close to you.  The animals graze and come and go at will. They are not contained to remain in your view throughout the day.  It is a natural environment, but from my experience, you will get a chance to see animals.  We were all in awe to see a huge giraffe just a few feet from us.  Seeing amazing animals up close never gets old.

Animal Kingdom Lodge and Villas carry the African theme throughout which makes you feel like you are visiting Africa. From the fire pit outside to the fireplace inside to the African-born employees, to the music playing you feel like you have landing in another country “Africa”.  The main hotel building called the “Jambo House” has two upscale restaurants.  The Animal Kingdom Lobby is huge and a great place to hang out and relax. See below.  I love the extremely tall ceilings, but the lodge still has a cozy lodge feeling.   It is a 5 to 10-minute walk from the Animal Kingdom Lodge to the Villas.

  1. Kevin’s uncle stayed at the Animal Kingdom Resort and had nothing, but good things to say about it. Hoping to check it out when we are down there. We are staying at the Wilderness Lodge and so excited to see all of Disney, Animal Kingdom included. So, huge thank you for sharing a bit of your experience here today, too Diane!! 😉

    • Janine,

Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my Animal Kingdom Lodge posts. We love the Wilderness Lodge too. Be sure to check out the Whispering Canyon Cafe. I was finally getting around to writing about it. I will post it soon.

Thank you again for all your support!
      Blessings,
      Diane Roark

  2. I’ve always wanted to stay at this lodge. Sounds like it is worth it. After our last visit to WDW, I think this is the kids’ favorite park next to Epcot. Thanks for sharing your trip!

    • Kirsten,

Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving a comment on my Animal Kingdom Lodge post. We had never been to Disney during the Christmas season so we had so much fun. We stayed out of the crowds by visiting our favorite park which is Epcot too. When you plan a trip to Disney in the future, be sure to check out all my reviews on Our American Travels. When we lived in Mobile and the New Orleans area, we went to Disney every year during the week of Mardi Gras to escape.
Thank you for supporting my blog.
      Blessings,
      Diane Roark
